Burroughs Home and Gardens (Fort Myers) - Closed until further notice. E-mail from Melissa Coons, Venue Director at Burroughs Home and Gardens to FAA on Saturday, 10/12: “The Burroughs Home is fine and our property sustained damage from both Helene and Milton; however, cleanup and repairs are underway.  Our museum will be closed through next week to allow for the cleanup to be completed and plan to re-open for business as usual the week of 10/21.” (20+) Facebook

Captiva Cruises (Captiva Island) – Closed until further notice. E-mail from Brad Junghans, Sales & Marketing Manager with Captiva Cruises to FAA on Friday, 10/11: “The boats all went up the Caloosahatchee River to a safe haven we lease for this type of thing. The boats are all fine. Between Helene and Milton we had damage to our docks and surge water into our office. Captiva in general was hit hard by both. Don’t really have a time frame for reopening but am hopeful we would be available for some sort cruises in the next 7-10 days. Keep in touch.”

From Captiva Cruises Facebook posting on Sunday 10/13: “This picture is a sight for sore eyes ….we are so grateful to report that McCarthy’s Marina suffered minimal damage! Keep an eye on our website for updates on when we will be able to open!”

Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) (Sanibel) - Closed until further notice. From CROW’s Facebook posting on Monday 10/14: “We want to give a HUGE thank you to BluePearl Pet Hospital, our hospital team, and everyone who admitted injured animals before and after the hurricane! Since Hurricane Milton, we triaged (examined) over 127 patients! Examining 100 patients between this past Thursday and Friday alone. We couldn’t have continued to treat wildlife in need without the help of BluePearl AND you all!  We are working to move back to our Sanibel campus since water and power has been restored to the island. We will continue to post updates once we have officially returned to our Sanibel home.  Please continue to take any sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife to BluePearl in Fort Myers!”

Peace River Wildlife Center (Punta Gorda) - Closed until further notice. From Peace River Wildlife Center’s Facebook posting on Thursday, 10/10: - “It is hard to know where to begin. Our wildlife hospital, education center and gift shop were already undergoing mitigation from Hurricane Helene. Milton came in and decimated both locations. The forces of this storm pushed habitats off foundations and our gift shop, hospital and admin/resident care buildings are compromised. Returning to Ponce Park is highly questionable. Yet another reason we must get our new facility on Henry Street built as quickly as possible.

Our team will be working on a recovery plan over the next few days. Our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and educate is still the driving force behind all that we do. It just may take us a little longer to get on our feet this time around. We know that many in our own community, including some of our own staff, are also recovering from these back-to-back storms. However, we are determined to push through this setback and move ahead. The force of PRWC’s spirit is stronger than these storms. Our wildlife residents are safe and their continued care is our utmost concern. Many of you ask how you can help. Right now, the greatest way to support our comeback is financially. Please go to https://prwildlife.org/support-prwc/ if you would like to make a donation. Because of the hazardous conditions at both sites, we cannot take on new volunteers at this time. We will update everyone once we’re able to do so. If you comment below, please know that we may be unable to respond immediately. Also, please do not visit either location. Both are closed to the public indefinitely. We appreciate your patience at this time.”

Sarasota Jungle Gardens (Sarasota)

Facebook post 10/13/24:

Thank you for everyone's prayers and good wishes. We sincerely appreciate them. We are hopeful that everyone in our area is able to get back to normal soon. Hurricane Milton came over with a vengeance and made landfall about 10 miles South of us. Fortunately the storm surge wasn't as bad as predicted. All of our staff, animals and buildings survived. However, there is a lot of debris to clear and repairs to make. And, we are still without power. It will take some time to reopen but we will do so as soon as possible. We will keep you posted.

For those wishing to help, we will post more information on how to do that in the coming days.
