Thom Stork inducted into Florida Tourism Hall of Fame

Since 2001, VISIT FLORIDA's Florida Tourism Hall of Fame has acknowledged contemporary and historic figures whose vision, creativity and drive have had a positive and significant impact on the development of Florida as a desirable visitor destination.

As a beloved member of the FAA and a true asset to Florida tourism, Thom Stork was posthumously inducted into the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame. His family was present on his behalf at the 2017 ceremony held at the Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida, Aug. 28-30.Thom served as a two-term FAA Chairman of the Board from 1991 to 1993 and was recognized as an Industry Statesman. He was awarded the FAA Chairman's Award in 2017 from then FAA Chairman Scott Rose, COO of the Florida Aquarium, for his contributions to the FAA and the Florida tourism industry.  

He was an innovator, a collaborator and a true visionary. He consistently worked to unify efforts in support of the Florida tourism industry. While managing the Busch Gardens and SeaWorld Orlando marketing programs, he led a corporate initiative to define new international markets for Florida tourism. As president and CEO of The Florida Aquarium, he built the attraction into a tourism destination that has delighted millions of visitors and is a leading light in the fields of conservation and research.

He was a consummate volunteer and community cheerleader, serving on the Visit Tampa Bay Board, the Florida Tourism Commission and the VISIT FLORIDA board, among many others. He will forever be remembered for his efforts and it was an incredible privilege to have him as a member of the FAA.
